Nikki D- Daddy's Little Girl (1991)

It is something of a feat to put out 1 album and still be recognized as one of the better female emcees in hip-hop history. Part of the reason is that she had two big hits from this album, "Daddy's Little Girl" and "Letting Off Steam". Another part is that the album overall is really good. The last reason is that she was brought on the scene by the right people. She came on the scene with the reputation of a big time label, big name producers behind her and gave her the right sound to break through. Unfortunately her career was far too brief. She did, however, still make an impact and an important one in an industry massively overrepresented by men. This is definitely an album you should make yourself familiar with. Enjoy!!!!

What?? Who says she is one of better female emcees? This right here is downfall of Def Jam.

Before this album was released Def jam was known and TRUSTED for releasing great Hip Hop. After they released this album trying cash in on the female emcee craze at the time their rep took a hit and NEVER recovered. They lost the people's trust and respect by pushing this buttugly so-so emcee.

Before Nikki D - Def Jam was the best Hip Hop record company ever. Making records for true heads.

After Nikki D - Def Jam was just like every other record company pushing a product to make money.

That name brings back so many bad memorires..Nikki D..it should have never happened.

Not everyone is going to see things the same way. I'll agree that Def Jam took a turn for the worse around that time but that was mostly because their roster was mostly past their prime and they didn't invest in new talent well from then on.

For me this reminds me of how I see Dr. Dre. A lot of people see Chronic as his breakthrough but for me it was like he couldn't get much worse than that but he did. Pre-Chronic was great and post-Chronic has been pretty awful.
