Various Artists- Ghana Soundz (2004)

Here's a cool comp of afro-beat and funk and fusion. It's funk with a twist. Often times the lyrics are far more social/ political than your average funk tunes and that's a good thing. The music is pretty uptempo on this one so you won't be feeling like sitting down to check this CD out. There's a follow-up to this CD but I have not yet picked it up. I think probably by the end of August, I'll be able to get a new batch of CDs in. Been awhile since I've been able to afford to do that and I definitely look forward to it because there's literally thousands of songs I haven't heard that I need to hear. This might be a bit of a change-up for some of you as far as your listening tastes go but I think if you give this a good, honest listen you will broaden your horizons and become more keen to check out some stuff you might not otherwise have. If you want a good example, the best song on this CD is easily Self Reliance. You get it all in one amazing track with distant echoes of the Go-Go genre. Enjoy!!!!
