Various Artists- Ready or Not 2- Deep Jazz Grooves from the CBC Radio Canada archives (2006)

The tribute continues!

(From Dusty Groove) A second fantastic dip into the jazz archives of the Canadian Broadcasting System -- home to a heck of a lot more great music than you might think! Since Canada never had great labels like Blue Note or Prestige back in the day, many of the country's best jazz players often recorded for broadcast -- cutting some incredible work that was often as good as most of the US jazz of the same period, but which never got the same sort of mainstream exposure. But exposed or not, the music is totally great -- and often in modal or groove-heavy styles here -- no surprise, given that the package was put together by the folks at Do Right Records, easily one of the greatest sources for modern soulful records from Canada! The package gives long overdue respect to these key jazz gems, and is filled with tons of great moments that maybe even go past the strength of volume one! Titles include "Perception" by Nick Ayoub, "Ton Visage" by Yvan Landtry Trio, "Atlantic Rising" by Sunship Ensemble, "Melancholy" by Alvinn Pall Sextet, "Hidden Strength" by Ted Moses Quintet, "Greek Street Break In" by Sakik Hakim, "Beloved Gift" by Bernie Senesky Trio, "Mas Que Nada" by Emil Normand Sextet, "Quebec On My Mind" by Billy Robinson, and "Maiera" by Fred Stone.
